Abstract
Series: Foundations in Developmental Medicine
Continuing presentations on the contribution to "developmental medicine" by clinicians who demonstrated courage, innovation and advocacy in helping to formulate the best practices in providing collaborative healthcare to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
This presentation showcases the work of Dr. Virginia Apgar, best known for developing the Apgar Newborn Scoring System, a simple.quick method for judging newborn viability. The test has saved countless infants, laid the foundations of neonatology and caught potentially grave conditions.
Learning Objective: To understand the stressors, obstacles and resistance to innovative clinical policies, procedures and programs that challenge the comfort level of both clinicians and health delivery systems.

Rick Rader, MD, FAAIDD, FAADM, DHL (hon)
Dr. Rader is the Director of the Habilitation Center at Orange Grove, Chattanooga where he is responsible for the identification, implementation and evaluation of innovative lifespan health programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is VP of Public Policy and Advocacy at the AADMD and serves as President of the American Association on Health and Disability. As the Editor in chief of Exceptional Parent Magazine he has published over 300 articles in the area of health and disability. He serves on the Global Medical Advisory Committee at Special Olympics International. He is the National Medical Consultant at the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals.
